The Interview
What's the biggest misconception people have about skincare?
That more is better. I see so many patients who've damaged their skin barrier by using too many active ingredients at once. The key to great skin isn't complexity—it's consistency with the right products for your skin type.
What are the three essential products everyone should have?
- A gentle cleanser that doesn't strip your skin
- A broad-spectrum SPF (the non-negotiable)
- A moisturizer appropriate for your skin type
Everything else is bonus, depending on your specific concerns.
How do you feel about the trend towards "natural" or "clean" beauty?
I think it's wonderful that people are more conscious about what they put on their skin. However, "natural" doesn't automatically mean better or safer. Some of the most effective and well-tolerated ingredients are synthetic. What matters most is efficacy and safety, regardless of origin.
What excites you most about current skincare innovations?
The advancements in understanding the skin microbiome and how we can support it. We're moving beyond just treating symptoms to actually supporting the skin's natural defense systems. It's a much more holistic approach.
What's your daily skincare routine?
Morning:
- Gentle cleanser
- Vitamin C serum
- SPF 50
Evening:
- Double cleanse (oil cleanser, then gel cleanser)
- Retinol (not every night!)
- Rich moisturizer
Any final advice for our readers?
Be patient and consistent. Great skin is built over months and years, not days. And please, wear your sunscreen every single day!
